"Warszawa da się lubić"

in my not perfect translation - "there are reasons to like Warsaw" it's a song written in the early 50's by Bronisław Brok to the music of Jerzy Wasowski. it extols Warsaw's charm and atmosphere and it mentions that one can find luck there as well as loose his hart...
nowadays the song can be heard mainly on streets of the capital played by local folk-bands.

the pictures below were taken during my a few days stay at home.

Jarmark Europa or in a casual Varsovian talk Stadion X-lecia was a sport stadium that became a huge outdoor market in 1989. it is definitely not a pleasent (and safe!) place and it has a negative opinion among many Varsovians. despite this thousands visit it daily to purchase cheap (quality) goods. the market is planned to close on September 30th to become a huge building site for a change. it is also believed to become National Stadium once.. for Euro 2012 Championship i mean ;)

"Chałupy welcome to"

it's a title of a song sang by a Polish singer and musician Zbigniew Wodecki. he wrote it to remember a nudist's beach near Chałupy. the title sentence contains a syntax mistake that i believe was used intentionally to give a certain 'coolness' to this Polish song. the meaning should be obvious - "welcome to Chałupy".
the village is situated where Hel penisula starts and it where i and Balint spent a week of our vacation in Poland. we also visited tricity - Gdynia, Sopot and Gdańsk.

EURO 2012 - POLAND & UKRAINE!!!

today at 11:45 in Cardif, Wales, president of UEFA announced that Euro 2012 will take place in Poland and Ukraine.
great happiness, a big chance for improvements and prestige, but also a lot of work to be done before 2012 in both countries.
i hope that my country, as well as Ukraine, will cope with it well, so that in 5 years time we can cheerfuly enjoy the matches and the presence of our international guests :)

I'm back. And so I'm uploading some more photos from Warszawa. I have to add that I'm missing home and all of you already. but "the world has to go round" as we say in Poland..

Easter in Warszawa


The wooden church in Stara Miłosna - my neighbourhood; built after First World War according to an original style that exists in Zakopane. the church was moved to Stara Miłosna in 1948.


Powązki Cemetery- one of the oldest cemeteries in Europe and the oldest one in Warsaw (1790)

The Palace itself (Pałac Kultury i Nauki) is the 4th tallest in the EU and the tallest building in Warsaw. btw, those who's ever seen a picture of Warszawa must have seen Pałac Kultury i Nauki that, despite the critiques of the majority of Poles, has become na icon. an interesting thing to point at here is that Poland received the skyscraper as a 'gift' from the Soviets during they big-time. The palace appeared in 1955 together with many other 'great' pearls of socreal architecture.
personally, i like this object very much. there are many things happening in Pałac Kultury i Nauki. there is a theatre, a cinema, a club, various exibitions and a cafe-bar. i'm not a regular any more, however i used to go there with my mum when i was a little girl. i was playing lego or painting with other kids. during my last stay in Warsaw i went to the club called 1955 that is located within its premises. it was a good night out - having lots of fun with some old friends and dancing to cool electro;)

my last two days in Poland were really warm and sunny; i took my dog Max for a walk to a nearby forest; this is a huge advantage of living on the outskirts of the big city
